IncludFEST is an emerging innovative outdoor arts event for children and young people with and without disabilities. They are invited to attend IncludFEST with their families to take part in and enjoy a range of arts activities including live music, outdoor street theatre, participatory 'have-a-go' workshops as well as arts and crafts 'make it' workshops. IncludFEST provides a range of arts opportunities for children with and without disabilities to take part in equally as a listener, viewer, doer and maker.
Children with a disability and their families struggle to access many of the leisure activities that are available to those without disabilities. There are also a limited number of activities or events that bring together children with and without a disability where they can play, participate and enjoy themselves side by side on an equal footing.
Since its formation TIN Arts has always prioritised creating equal access to the arts and artistic leisure activities for all. IncludFEST is purposely created to bring together young people and their families to break down barriers that exist and to support the development of integrated activities and a greater level of understanding and communication. So far it has taken place twice in Durham and IncludFEST Darlington is the start of a new exciting venture to see if we can share the festival into new locations.
This year’s event in Darlington was funded by Creative Darlington, along with The County Durham Community Foundation and local business support. We also received a great deal of support from Darlington for Culture. Whilst we will work hard to explore how the festival can be sustained and embedded into the annual cultural offer within Darlington, we are also keen to identify new locations for the festival across the North East of England.
IncludFEST offers a unique opportunity to utilise culture and the arts to connect and empower local voluntary sector and cultural organisations together to reach out to and engage new audiences.
On Tuesday 4th August, 10am – 12 noon we will be holding an information session in the Education Centre, South Park, Darlington for anybody interested in exploring how IncludFEST could take place in their local area from 2016 onwards.
