PULSE 2015 is a series of events that celebrate the best in youth dance across the North East region and provide groups with the opportunity to perform in a performance space local to them, be inspired, see each other's work and acknowledge the talent of young creators and performers.
TIN Arts are working with Dance City and other organisers to deliver PULSE 2015. We are leading on the sub-regional platform for Durham.
The PULSE 2015 events also offer the opportunity of youth dance progression routes; Groups of young people aged 11 to 19 (and disabled young people up to the age of 24) can opt to be part of a selection process to represent the North East at the Dance City Regional Pulse Platform which follows the Pulse events and then at National level as U.Dance 2015 hosts a celebration festival in Plymouth in July.
At each of the Sub Regional events two groups are selected by an independent panel to perform at Dance City's Regional Pulse Platform and from this event a further two are selected to represent the North East in Plymouth in July. These stages are purely optional and groups may opt to perform at their sub regional event only if they wish.
PULSE events are happening throughout the North East region in March 2015 and for the opportunity to be involved please complete the online 'Confirmation of Interest' form and we will confirm receipt of information within 2-3 working days.
The Durham performance will take place on Sunday 22nd March in Coxhoe at the Leisure Centre. It will be a 5pm performance with rehearsals running throughout the day. The PULSE 2015 performance will take place within our existing SLIDE event with children and young people from across our programmes also performing on the same evening though several of these groups will not be applying to be considered for PULSE 2015.
We will compile all the responses and then contact you in December with further details, as well as ask you for the relevant information about your group and pieces.
- The Dance City Regional Pulse Platform (for 2 selected groups from each area only) will take place on Tuesday 31st March.
- For groups that are wishing to be considered for the U.Dance National event 2015, groups are to be made up of no more than 20 dancers (it is recommended that groups comprise of no more than 15 dancers as groups of 16 dancers or more will need to have three chaperones instead of two) and dance pieces are to be no longer than 7 minutes.
- There are other exciting opportunities as part of U.Dance 2015 in Plymouth including 'New Dimensions' which encourages a more experimental approach to making dance, with the opportunity to make a work that is longer and challenges pre-conceived ideas about youth dance work that pushes the boundaries and demonstrates exceptionally high quality. Applications for this strand should be sent directly to YDE, www.u.dance.org.
